Research & collaborate

Explore U!REKA and connect with our community.

U!REKA focuses on applied research in metropolitan areas that drives innovation, fosters debate, informs policy and delivers impact in society. Our research is interdisciplinary and brings together diverse stakeholders: it’s a one-stop-shop for urban issues.
U!REKA aims to strengthen applied research and innovation within the alliance and increase its impact to benefit joint education and our societies. We strengthen our collective impact towards the societal challenges within our mission. At the same time, R&I will support U!REKA’s initiatives on challenge-based learning.

Centres of expertise

U!REKA will establish three joint Centres of Expertise to pool, integrate and strengthen existing research capacities and infrastructures, and to share best practices.

U!REKA Centres of Expertise will focus on three main transitions:

  • Climate-Neutral Urban Communities
  • Transition to Circular Societies
  • Innovative Governance Models & Citizen Engagement (for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities)

Furthermore, a joint cross-border knowledge-creating community will be set-up to co-create solutions for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and to identify the key challenges of the cities as the bases for developing joint European projects and joint education.

U!REKA connects

The U!REKA Consortium organises an annual networking event, hosted by a different partner each year. This highly anticipated gathering is a prime opportunity for strengthening our existing partnerships and forging new joint activities. Attendees share expertise through interactive workshops, presentations and more.
